Mothers

Today is Mother’s Day. Let’s be clear about the day. Today we celebrate good mothers, not bad ones. Yes, there are bad mothers and there are also bad fathers, bit we won’t speak of fathers Today, it’s mother’s day.

Even Jesus had a mother on this earth. You can’t live on the earth, it appears, without being born, and to be born requires a mother. The one thing we can be sure of is this. Despite the incredible odds of fertilization, meaning you can have sex 1000 times and have no children, or you have have sex once and have triplets, babies are not a chance occurrence. God gives a specific child to a specific Mother. That child’s best chances to succeed in following Gods plan start with being raised by that Mother. It’s a huge responsibility. If you teach you child to hate God, to ignore God to profane God… you will answer to God for how you treated His gift to you. If a mother does her job she will be rewarded no matter the outcome of the child. Her reward is based on her doing her duty, out of love, not how the child turns out.

I was talking to a young mother who had children and a bad marriage, which had ended. She, after 4 children, found herself pregnant again. Her husband dragged her down to an abortion center and told her to get rud of the baby… which she did. She now felt guilt. I told her the truth. Your child is fine, He or she is sitting in Heaven, happy and safe. That child loves you and has forgiven you. And now the child waits to meet you. Make it to Heaven. Meet your child. Be reunited in the Glory of God. God forgives the worst sins.

Motherhood is a tremendous gift. One that should be protected, honored and encouraged. The kegacy if a family will last lo ger than any job. The effect if good mothers is felt through the ages. Mothers need prayers. They need to know how special they are and how committed we are to them.

Mothers day is supposed to shake us up, gives us a slap, and say…did you forget how special your mother is… don’t take the annual reminder lightly. Reflect on your mother and , if you have been so blessed, the mother of your own children. I have daughter who are becoming mothers and am proud to see them enter into that role with dignity and grace.
